Mount Edith Cavell

Construction of the Mount Edith Cavell Road began in the mid 1900s and the road officially opened in 1927. In 1924 Fred Slark built a small frame building to be used as a teahouse that was moved up the road as construction progressed. After his death on Mount Redoubt in 1927, his widow, Grace, had a log building constructed at the base of the glacier and the old building was moved up the road to be used by staff. Anne & Don bought Chalet Moraine in 1946, renovated extensively and changed the name to the Mount Cavell Chalet.
