


Chaba Theatre Timeline
1922 The Otto brothers apply for a lease to build a movie theatre but in 1923 they sign the lease over to Jack Donnelly.
1923 Mr. Warren, GM for CNR, suggests a ‘moving picture house’ was in the interests of the railway and community.
1926 A theatre is built by Jack Donnelly at a cost $5000. CN agrees to supply power until the town could generate its own.
1935 W.S. Jeffery takes over
1940 Max Garfin partners with W.S. Jeffery.
1946 Anne & Paul Wacko move to Jasper and join John Malowany and Andrew Farion to take over the Chaba.
1972 Dwain Wacko takes over running the Chaba.
1990 The newly renovated Chaba’s twin theatres open.
2000 Jasper Film Club begins showing TIFF films during the winter months.
2009 Upgrades are made to acoustics.
2010 Upgrades are made to sound system.
2011 The Chaba Theatre goes digital.
2022 The Chaba Theatre closes.
