It took the best part of two years to assembles the stories and articles collectively known as "legends" for this book. Its authors; Jack Deenik, Robert Guest, and Richard Wuorinen are all residents of the mining town of Grande Cache. From the beginning, they shared a common goal- to collect legends of the Yellowhead area and illustrate them for wide public appeal. Three kinds of pictures grace the pages of the Legends of Grande Cache and the Yellowhead. These are: historical photographs in black-and-white, modern-day color photographs, and pen drawings with a few reproductions of paintings.
For the most part, the legends were based on the immediate area, but some represent the greater Yellowhead Region where tales from past to present have added variety. The time span ranges from dinosaurs, to the pre-historic Ice-Free Corridor, down through the years of trail blazing and early native settlement, to the present day. Even a few "legends in the making" have been included, such as the popular Death Race series and the "Passport To The Peaks".
The authors hope that readers from all over will find these legends to be fascinating and will want to visit the beautiful front range of the Rockies here in west central Alberta.
