Ways to Go

In 2023, six adventurers travelled to Nepal to visit a remote Sherpa community that lies in the shadow of the sacred mountain Tseringma, “the Mother of Long Happy Life.” The story of their journey, however, actually begins more than a half-century earlier—with three Norwegians, a 1971 “antiexpedition,” and the development of ecophilosophy, a joy-filled approach to mountaineering, to travel, and to life in general, which not only remains surprisingly relevant today, but also offers a vision of a way forward as we face an increasingly uncertain global future.
